if you're reading this, most probably you already know a bit about me, but let me introduce myself better.
So, first things first, I am Ruta Smailyte-Sokolnikiene - contemporary singer and vocal coach and I could divide my story into 3 parts: Lithuania, England, Finland.
I come from Lithuania, a beautiful town called Birstonas, in the middle of the country. There I lived a very happy life with my parents and two siblings.
My formal musical education started when I moved to London, UK in 2008 to study music & singing at The ICMP. During that time I was soaking every bit of music and culture that London had to offer. There my singing training and career really started. Some of the highlights would be participation in Bernstein Mass project conducted by Marin Alsop(Baltimore symphony orch.), London Jazz Festival 2011 & 2013, Alchemy Festival 2011 at Southbank Centre, music arranging, composition course and jam with Snarky Puppy, solo and group gigs at Queen Elizabeth Hall, Royal Festival Hall, jazz club 606, the O2,
After 6 years in the capital, I briefly moved back to my great home country Lithuania, where I continued working as a singer (National Air-force Orchestra, Lithuanian Ministry of the Interior Wind Orchestra) and voice teacher. Not long after, I ended up here, in Finland, Kuopio, where I am currently learning Finnish language, working at Savonia University of Applied Sciences and singing(concert with Kuopio Symphony Orchestra July 2014, local musicians).
